Foz has been out with a stoamch injury and after six weeks that have seen little recovery the club have decided to allow the 30-year-old to undergo surgery.
The pacy striker had thought that with rest he would be able to rid himself of the restrictive injury.
Foz will go under the knife in Manchester on Saturday so that hopefully he can play a crucial part in our end of season run in.
Physio Jon Fearn will no doubt be disappointed by the news as he had earlier stated that he hoped no surgery would be necessary. Yet he remains pleased that there will be an end to Forster's injury woes.
Speaking to the official site Fearn explained: "This will keep him out for four to six weeks but the good news is that he will be back this season. Maybe some people thought he would be out for the whole season but he should be back."
"We've got nowhere (so far) so both Fozzy and I are very happy with this outcome. The surgeon comes highly recommended from top physios so we've got a top guy doing it."
Until Forster is ready to make his first team return Reading will battle on with Lloyd Owusu and Shaun Goater up-front. Owusu's loan spell conveniently comes to an end just as Forster will be preparing to make his first team comeback.
However, the news that Forster will need an operation is sure to be frustrating for the club as if he had been sent for surgery straight away the frontman's time spent on the sidelines would have been much reduced.
