Going, Going, Staying? Speculation surrounds Alan Pardew's future at the club
After the Royals have made an excellent start to their first Division One campaign speculation is mounting that rivals Stoke City could poach Alan Pardew.

Reports at the weekend had suggested that Pardew, out of contract next summer, is on the Potters wanted list.

Northen Ireland boss Sammy McIlroy is believed to be favourite for the post vacated by Steve Cotterill who linked up with Howard Wilkinson at Stoke last week.

After Reading's successful start to the season Pardew feels that it is inevitable that he will be linked with jobs elsewhere.

The Royals boss told the Reading Evening Post: "Football changes very quickly. If you have done well then you are going to get linked with other jobs. But that doesn’t mean you want to go."

Meanwhile, Pardew admitted that he wasn't surprised to see Howard Wilkinson and Steve Cotterill link up at Sunderland after witnessing their good working relationship on a summer coaching course.

Pardew added: "It didn't surprise me Steve going to Sunderland when Howard got the job - I knew they were close. I was on the youth pro training licence with them both."
