Then on Monday when we all anticipated that the truth would finally come out... the club released a statement confirming that there would be no news that day and that we would hear in the next 48 hours. But yesterday, just as the last of those long 48 hours elapsed, it emerged that a planned press conference had been cancelled.
According to reports in 'The Times' and on 'Sky Sports News' this morning, today will see the Royals finally confirm the appointment of Steve Coppell. Given the continual delays that have seen the managerial search descend into a shambles we wouldn't be surprised to see the big news put on hold once more.
A whopping twenty-nine days have passed since Alan Pardew prematurely announced his resignation. The club have had the best part of a month to find a new boss yet haven't managed to do so.
It has been alleged that the reason for all the delays has been Brighton's reluctance to let Coppell, who is in the last year of his contract, leave the club that he has dragged to the top of the Second Division. Reading were said to be only prepared to pay £100,000 yet have had to dig deep to find an extra £50,000 to bring the 48-year-old to the Madejski.
Reading MAD will of course keep you up to date with all today's developments, if and when they materialise.
