Thames Valley Police insisted that Reading's game at home to beaten Play-Off Semi-Finalists Sunderland must take place after the Bank Holiday weekend as all of their officers will be working at the Festival which takes place annually over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Although the three-day event finishes on the Sunday evening, the majority of festival-goers make their way out of Reading on the Monday. Furthermore, with 50,000 people flowing out of town the traffic is always horrendous, so it was in the club's best interests to postpone the game.
However, last year Thames Valley Police allowed the Royals to play at home to Rotherham on the Bank Holiday Monday. Rotherham were the opponents in a game which was screened live on Sky. The match proved to be Martin Butler's last for the club before he moved to Millmoor.
Meanwhile, Steve Coppell's squad met up today for fitness testing ahead of the beginning of pre-season training on Thursday. The team will of course play their first match of the new campaign at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on August 7th.
