Royals star Henderson, who weighed in with twelve goals in his first full season last year, is expected to be fit for the start of the season.

Darius suffered the injury, which is known as jumpers knees, last Christmas, but played on until April at times being unable to train at all.

Pre-season training started in earnest for the Royals this week, and after spending the summer recuperating under the guidance of Physio Jon Fearn the Royals number twenty-four has been able to take a full part in the sessions so far.

Darius, who is contracted to the Royals until the summer of 2004, told readingfc.co.uk “Training is going well so far. I've just recovered from the injury, so I don't want to rush into anything and have a setback with the knee. I can still feel the injury a little bit, and I'm doing some extra training in the gym to strengthen the knee.”

After making thirty-six appearances as a sub Henderson will be hoping to start a few more games this season now that he is approaching full fitness.
