Reading boss Brian McDermott has praised defender Shaun Cummings for his revival at the Madejski Stadium. The full-back was a deadline-day signing in the summer of 2009 by former manager Brendan Rodgers but was shunned by McDermott last season. However, he has returned from the wilderness to play in the last six games and has impressed McDermott with his performances. He said: "It is an extraordinary story. He hadn't played for me at all but the most important thing now is that he knows how to win football matches. "If you've got the basics right, especially as a full-back, you've got something to fall back on. He has seen what has gone on here in the last eight months and there is real competition at right-back now."
