Reading have been a revelation on their return to the First Division this season and are currently sitting in a healthy twelfth place, just five points adrift of the Play-Off places.
Salako admits if the players have the belief then they can go a long way.
He told the Reading Chronicle: "I keep telling the lads that if we believe in ourselves and work hard enough we can do it within the next two years. It's really possible. We've only got to get over the psychological barrier.
"The Premiership is still very much in my mind. I don't talk about it much because it's a difficult time for football but I'd love to play in it again.
"I'm mindful of how ambitious we can be at Reading in this financial climate but I think we've got the manager, the coaching staff and the infrastructure already in place."
Meanwhile Salako believes that the club must strive to keep getting results onm the field with the Play-Offs a glimmer of hope on the horizon.
"This is a crucial time for us. We're having a good spell and finding a bit of consistency. If we can keep that going and put a proper run together we could be in a great position over Christmas and the New Year. We're determined to stay in touch."
The former England international believes that the club must attempt to sign 'quality' players like Matthew Upson in order to keep moving forward.
He added: "Matthew Upson is looking stronger every game and every bit the Premiership player. He's the sort of player we need and should be looking to add to the squad.
"We're only two or three players of Matthew's quality away from being a top six side or a Premiership side. If we can afford it, that's what we've got to aim for."
