With Saturday's clash with Crystal Palace called off Reading now have no game until 19th October when they are at home to Ipswich Town.

Royals winger John Salako feels that it was vitally important that the Royals got three points on the board at Grimsby last Saturday, moving them up into a healthy ninth position as they go into their short break.

"3-0 at Grimsby was a fantastic win. After the game against Crystal Palace was called off it became a big game for us. As we only got a draw at home to Stoke previously we had to go to Blundell Park and get something," explained Salako, speaking to readingfc.co.uk.

"We knew Grimsby would be a tough side to beat but we made it easier by getting two early goals. We showed good resiliance in the second half - it was a good performance.

"We hoped to get one or two more in the second half but we knew that Grimsby would make it tough.

"With this win under our belts the team can be a little more relaxed in training this week as we are sitting pretty in ninth position. We'll train hard this week and maybe take the weekend off, it will be nice to spend some time with the kids."
