Reading began their pre-season tour of Slovenia and Croatia with a 3-1 victory over a Red Star Belgrade B team on Wednesday. Red Star took an early lead but Alex Pearce equalised for the Royals and two second-half goals from Simon Church gave Brian McDermott's men a fine win. McDermott, who saw Gylfi Sigurdsson miss a penalty in the 75th minute, said: "It was a really, really good game and I was well pleased with that. "We had really good opposition, it's a great club we were playing against and I thought our lads were terrific. We played some good football, really strong, and put virtually two teams out. "Footballers take a bit of stick at times but anyone who has been around our group and our players and staff will see they are a complete credit to themselves and all of Reading Football Club."
