Royals Sign Convey

The MLS have revealed that Reading have agreed a deal to bring twenty-six times USA international Bobby Convey to the Madejski Stadium.

Reading Football Club have been heavily linked with Convey, a pacy left-winger, during the past seven days.

No transfer fee has yet been announced at this stage, although the Royals are believed to have paid in the region of 500,000 GBP for Convey.

It is thought that Reading will pay the pacy left-winger in the region of 5,000 GBP per week.

A year ago Convey saw a potential move to Tottenham fall through when the Home Office refused to grant him a work permit.

But there will be no repeat of last year's transfer nightmare for Convey, he has now played in eight out of the USA's ten internationals in the past two years, so is eligible to play his football in the UK.

Convey was thrilled to have finally sealed a dream move for Europe.

"I'm truly excited to join Reading FC and I now have the opportunity to show that another American born and bred professionally in the MLS is world-class," he said.

"My dream of going to England has come true and I'm sure that it will be a great experience."

Meanwhile, Reading chairman John Madejski was delighted to have captured an experienced international just two weeks before the start of the new season.

"We are very excited that a top-class international player such as Bobby has agreed to join us, and I am sure his signing will generate a great deal of excitement amongst our supporters as we approach the new season," explained Madejski.

The Royals chief has been criticised this summer for failing to purchase top quality players.

Previous summer signings Glen Little, Ibrahima Sonko and Paul Brooker hardly inspired fans hoping for a Premiership push after last year's end-of-season failure.

Yet real optimism exists around the Madejski Stadium now that the Rioyals have signed their very own Real Madrid-style 'galactio'.

Supporters are beginning to believe once more that the Reading have the ambition to push for the top flight this season.

DC United president Kevin Payne was in philosophical mood following the announcement that Convey will be making his way to Reading.

"When we drafted Bobby, we knew he had a lot of special qualities," said Payne.

"It's been a lot of fun watching him progress as a player and a thrill to see him with the US men's national team. I'm sure that Bobby will find success with Reading and we wish him all of the luck in the world."

Tottenham had been sniffing around the skillful left winger for over a year, so Payne was perhaps not surprised when it was revealed that Convey will be making his way to England.

But maybe he was slightly shocked to see Convey opt for 'little' Reading. The signing of a young and top notch USA international a major represents a major transfer coup for Reading Football Club.

The youngster, who at 21 certainly has time on his side, should be formally unveiled at the Madejski Stadium sometime early next week.
