Royals closing in on Smith

It's thought though that a final £1.6m offer has been put in for Tommy Smith from Watford.

Hammond said: "We are still attempting to bring in players to the club and we have made an offer for a player this week.

"If we can we would obviously like to bring someone in as soon as possible."

Reading have previously offered £750,000 and then last Friday £1.2m.

Smith scored for Watford in their win at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.
