The 31-year-old forward could be set to leave the Madejski Stadium after suffering a terrible double blow this week.
Although veteran forward Les Ferdinand was out injured, Fozzy did not even command a place on the bench when the Royals travelled to Crewe on Tuesday evening.
To make matters worse fellow frontman Dave Kitson successfully signed a new deal this week - but the club continue to fail to offer Foz a new contract.
After Forster's poor recent form boss Steve Coppell preferred to put unpredictable former Colchester striker Dean Morgan on the bench for Tuesday's match at Gresty Road.
The striker, who has finished as the club's leading scorer in the last two campaigns, has struggled for form in an injury ravaged campaign so perhaps should not be surprised at his omission from the first team.
However, the first team omission is worrying for Forster as his contract is due to expire in the summer yet the Royals are refusing to sit down and discuss a new deal with the number ten before the end of the season.
However, the club were happy to swiftly conclude contract negotiations with leading marksman Dave Kitson earlier this week - even though his current contract has more than a year left to run on it.
This is understood to have disappointed Forster who is thought to believe that his future may lie away from the Madejski Stadium.
Championship rivals Wigan had a £750k bid for the forward rejected a year ago and are likely to be monitoring the situation carefully.
Sources close to the forward suggest that even if the club were to offer him a new contract he would turn it down.
A move away from the Madejski Stadium appears unlikely at the present point in time, although Forster will be free to enter contract negotiations with other English clubs from the start of April - three months before his deal is due to expire.
