The club captain suffered a calf injury during pre-season but despite coming through a reserve game last week, he complained of a twinge and was left out of Saturday's defeat to Ipswich as a precaution.

Liam Rosenior could keep his place in the starting line-up if Coppell decides not to rush back Murty.

Midfielder Kalifa Cisse is a doubt with a toe injury but Marek Matejovsky is definitely out as he continues his rehabilitation from a knee injury.

Defender Michael Duberry remains a few weeks away from a return after a calf injury although Sam Sodje could be in line for a return to Coppell's squad after returning to the reserve side following a knee problem.

Francis Jeffers is expected to be included in Sheffield Wednesday's squad for their clash at Reading.

The Owls striker has been sidelined since last October with a serious ankle injury, followed by a groin problem, but could make his first appearance of the season.

But central defender Mark Beevers will miss out again due to the hamstring strain that kept him on the sidelines on Saturday, so Peter Gilbert should continue alongside captain Richard Wood at the heart of defence.

Beevers is hoping to recover in time for this weekend's home clash with Ipswich.

Brian Laws, who has no new injury or suspension problems, could recall Deon Burton up front.

But Laws may decide to stick with the same line-up following Saturday's win over Watford, with winger Jermaine Johnson partnering Marcus Tudgay up front.
