Gorkss banned for Royals
Reading will be without Kaspars Gorkss when they host Nottingham Forest.
The Latvian defender was sent off as the Royals crashed to a third straight defeat, 3-0 at Middlesbrough, and serves a one-match ban.
It means boss Nigel Adkins will have to further patch up a defence already missing Chris Baird (ankle), Wayne Bridge and Sean Morrison (both knee).
Jem Karacan (cruciate), Mikele Leigertwood (ankle) and Jason Roberts (hip) are also out injured but Royston Drenthe could return after missing out at Boro due to personal reasons.
Nottingham Forest will check on David Vaughan ahead of the trip.
Vaughan missed the 2-1 home win over Leeds on Sunday with a slight thigh strain but Reds boss Billy Davies feels there is a chance the on-loan Sunderland midfielder could come back into the reckoning against the Royals.
After making only one change against Leeds, Radoslaw Majewski replaced Vaughan, Davies may opt to freshen up his starting line-up on New Year's Day.
The likes of Dan Harding, Nathaniel Chalobah, Jamie Paterson, Matt Derbyshire and Simon Cox are options for the Scot.
