Maybe the Royals are beginning to get the media attention they deserve after last season's heroics. Sky today announced that two of Reading's early season games will be shown live.
Rupert Murdoch's cameras will be in town once more when Rotherham visit the Madejski Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25th. Traditionally, the August Bank Holiday game has been switched to the Tuesday by Thames Valley Police to avoid a clash with the Reading Festival. However, Sky have attempted to get round the problem by switching the kick-off time to 12.30pm.
The other Royals game to feature on Sky in the early season glut of games is our visit to Sunderland on Saturday 27th September. Sky's decision will ensure only the most hardcore Reading fans will make the mammoth trip up North. The kick-off for our clash with Mick McCarthy's side has been switched to 5.35pm.
The news will delight Chairman John Madejski as the club will receive a £120,000 cash windfall for the two live games. Cash that will come in handy as Alan Pardew attempts to bolster his squad.
Last season ,Reading's home games against Gillingham, Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves (Play-Offs), Brighton and Nottingham Forest were all on Sky. Whilst away games against Norwich and Stoke were also screened.
