Pressure mounts on Coppell

Another lacklusture, disjointed and impotent performance from Reading away at QPR at the weekend has further increased the pressure on helpless manager Steve Coppell.

As Reading increased their run of winless league matches to eleven, just four short of a club record fifteen games without a victory, Coppell remained at a loss saying simply 'I should have the answers, but I don't'.

Even Rangers Manager Ian Holloway had something to say on the latest shoddy performance stating: 'I hardly remember an incident throughout the whole match'.

Over those last eleven matches Reading have scored a pathetic four goals, leading to fans calling for a change at the top.

Ironically the saving grace for Coppell could be the equally poor performance from some of Reading's key rivals.

Despite the lack of Royal firepower, Reading's dull 0-0 draw at Loftus Road was enough to put them back in the play-offs at the expense of inconsistent West Ham.

Ex-Royals manager Pardew, still at the helm at Upton Park, is hotly tipped to be the next Championship boss to be removed from duties. West Ham are once again failing to live up to lofty pre-season expectations and are currently struggling to get hold of a play-off place.

The difficult situation for both clubs puts even more pressure on what is already bound to be an emotionally charged match at the Madejski Stadium next Saturday when Pardew's Hammers face the Royals.

In a real winner takes all showdown, it's not just points, pride, or even a place in the play-offs that the clubs will be fighting for, but the very future of their managers.
