The Royals boss was incensed at the referee's decisions during Reading's encounter with ipswich last Saturday, and after reviewing the videos has decided that he will appeal against Nicky Shorey's red card.

The twenty-two-year-old was given a seventy-eighth minute straight red for flooring Pablo Counago just outside the penalty area as he rushed goalwards.

"I'm appealing against the decision because I genuinely feel the striker didn't see Nicky there and it was a bit of a coming together," Pardew explained to readingfc.co.uk.

After Saturday's game Pardew launched a passionate attack on referee Brian Curson for his shoddy decisions.

As if to further lay into the ref, Pardew added: "I certainly feel a booking would have been very harsh, let alone a sending off but we're appealing and we'll see how we get on."

It is unclear as to whether the dismissal was for violent conduct or for a professional foul. In our opinion, Shorey's foul was hardly bad enough to be considered 'violent', nor could it be considered a professional foul as there were players back covering.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to appeal about the controversial last minute penalty that the referee awarded against Reading.
