Reading will be gunning for glory against Charlton at the Madejski Stadium tonight, as manager Alan Pardew seeks to spring a surprise against his former club with a Royals victory.
Alan Pardew was appointed as Reading manager in September 1999, he has since rejuvenated the Royals squad, grasping them from the jaws of relegation to promotion in under three years.
Tommy Burns gave Pardew a chance in coaching, appointing him as reserve team manager back in 1997. The Englishman was making his move into coaching after a successful playing career with the likes of Yeovil Town, Crystal Palace, Charlton and Barnet.
Reading last met Charlton two years ago in a pre-season friendly with the Addicks gaining a 3-1 victory in a match which will long be remembered for the serious injury sustained by Nicky Forster.
Ahead of tonights game Pards told readingfc.co.uk: "Ovbiously my history comes into the match tonight. I'm familiar with the way they play, which is what I want to see tonight - they play in a certain way and it's a good gauge for us in terms of where we are.
"We played them two years ago and I want to see how they've progressed and also how we've progressed."
