Pardew: We Can Snatch Opportunity For Third Place

Last updated : 12 December 2002 By Rob Cooper
Alan Pardew has spoken of the necessity of a positive attitude as the Royals strive to maintain the high standards that saw them win five successive matches during November.

The Reading boss believes that his side are due a defeat after such an impressive run but believes his side must not think that way if they are to maintain their fine form.

Reading face Play-Off chasing Sheffield United in a tough home fixture on Saturday. A win could launch the Royals up into third, poised just below the second automatic promotion spot.

In his programme notes for Saturday's game he admitted that his side must 'seize the opportunity' to take third spot.

Pardew wrote: "After six straight wins and then a home draw, it wouldn't be the end of the world for us to lose. I think all of us subconciously could have thoughts along those lines, but that's a recipe for mediocrity. We can go third, and it's everyone's duty, fans included, to seize this opportunity."

Saturday's game with Sheffield United is 'Kids for a Quid' for those booking in advance, guaranteeing a bumper pre-Christmas corwd. Seventeen and a half thousand tickets have already been sold for the game.
