The Royals boss startlingly admitted last night that he was indeed after Brighton captain Danny Cullip.
Co-commentating on Brighton's game against QPR last night on BBC Radio Five Live, Pardew admitted that in the past Reading have had scouts watching the 26-year-old Bracknell born centre-back.
"He's greatly admired by my staff, and we have watched him in the past. I like him, he's an honest player, he takes no prisoners and you know what you get with him," commented the Reading manager.
Indeed, Pardew went onto add that Steve Coppell is 'keen to hold onto Cullip', suggesting, as has long been believed, that an enquiry had been made about the player's availability.
A couple of weeks ago Coppell, the former Crystal Palace manager, admitted that a Division One side had registered an interest in the centre-back. Whilst Coppell, a close friend of Pardew's, refused to reveal the name of the team, it is widely believed that Reading were that club.
Nearly two months ago Reading MAD reported that they believed that Alan Pardew had held secret discussions with Danny Cullip in regard to a transfer to the Madejski Stadium.
However deep the interest in the Brighton captain may have been, it now seems that any moves to bring the player to the Madejski are rooted well and firmly in the past.
