Murty is hoping the fans will turn up in their thousands on Saturday to help cheer Reading onto victory against Millwall, the side that beat Reading to promotion two years ago.
Saturday's clash is an all ticket game, kicking off at 12pm, and Royals right-back Graeme Murty admits the fans can make all the difference.
He told readingfc.co.uk: "A good crowd always makes a difference. There's always a good atmosphere when we play Millwall so hopefully our fans can drown out theirs and cheer us onto a good victory.
"I'm looking forward to the game. This one always has a big build-up, it's a local game, and there should be a good crowd."
The Lions, managed by former Royals boss Mark McGhee, have made a poor start to the season after an impressive fourth place finish last season.
But Murty is under no illusions and admits his side will be in for a tough game.
He added: "They're still a good team, they just beat Derby 3-0. But the way we're playing we're just going to concentrate on ourselves. We're more than happy with the way we're playing."
