The QPR midfielder starred in the 0-0 draw with Leeds and McDermott is confident he will become a key part of the side.
He said: "It's difficult coming straight in like he did but he is really popular around the place and does his job quietly and efficiently.
"It is no accident that we had a first clean sheet in six games when he played.
"He lasted 75 minutes and got better as it went on. He'll improve with games and training."
