The chairman joined many hundreds of Royals supporters in waving their goodbyes to legendary midfielder Phil Parkinson.
The 35-year-old, who has spent the last eleven years at Reading, today took up the vacant managers position at Colchester United, his first management role.
A tenacious midfielder who always wears his heart on his sleeve, Phil has just the right character to succeed in management.
Commenting on the appointment Madejski told readingfc.co.uk: "I am very sad to see Phil Parkinson leave Reading Football Club but I understand that this opportunity to move into management was something that he could not turn down.
"I am sure everybody connected with Reading will join me in congratulating him on the appointment and wishing him the very best of luck at Colchester United.
"Phil has been a magnificent servant during his 11-year spell at Elm Park and the Madejski Stadium, and he is regarded with great affection by the players, officials and supporters alike.
"He has always been the epitome of commitment, determination and dedication, qualities which will serve him well in his new career as a manager.
"He will be greatly missed, but he has given us some marvellous moments, and the memory of Parky lifting the Division Two promotion shield on his testimonial night at the end of last season is something we shall never forget."
