Igoe had on Tuesday been told that he must decide by Thursday whether he wanted to sign a new deal with the Royals. At the time he admitted he was torn between leaving and finding a longer contract elsewhere and staying with the Royals.
But today the Royals received confirmation by phone from Igoe, confirming that he will sign a new deal by the weekend. The midfield starlet told readingfc.co.uk of his thinking behind signing a new deal:
“In my heart of hearts, I always wanted to stay at Reading because I'm very happy at the Club. I just wanted a longer deal than one year because I've got a mortgage to pay and a family to look after, but I've put all that behind me now, and I'm just looking forward to trying to do well for Reading in Division One.”
“At Parky's testimonial I was speaking to Jimmy McIntyre and asking him what it's like to be out of contract, because it had never happened to me before. He said it's a horrible situation to be in, and he was just glad that he was out of contract last year rather than this year because of all the financial problems at the moment."
“We're all looking forward to playing in Division One again. I came to Reading from the First Division and really noticed the difference, so it's great to be back there.”
Confirmation of Igoe's renewed commitment to Reading Football Club is expected to be received tomorrow.
