Igoe Pens New Deal

After agreeing to a new deal yesterday Igoe was present at the Madejski Stadium to pen a new deal today. The former Portsmouth midfield starlet had earlier looked to leave on a bosman signing after only been offered a one year contract despite a fantastic reason.

Reading Football Club reasoned that with football's current financial plight, and more specifically the problems at ITV Digital they were only able to afford to give Igoe a one year contract extension.

Reading chairman John Madejski was delighted to get the deal sorted; he told readingfc.co.uk: "Despite the financial problems that are affecting football at the moment, I was very keen to push this deal through and I'm delighted that Sammy has agreed to stay. He was an influential member of our promotion-winning squad last season, and we're all looking forward to seeing him in action in Division One.

"This signing demonstrates our commitment to ongoing success at Reading Football Club, even in the current uncertain financial climate. No TV money has been made available to us in the last few months, but we have still been prepared to invest the funds needed to keep Sammy at the Club, and of course we have also spent nearly £1m to construct the new Academy Dome, which will erected from Monday and ready in time for the new season."

Meanwhile, it is rumoured that Brighton & Hove Albion captain Danny Cullip is set to become Alan Pardew's first signing of the summer. The Bracknell born player has been released by the Division Two Champions and according to his father he should become a Reading player sometime next week.
