The Royals have mounted a stunning late push for the Premier League, winning their last eight games to propel themselves to fourth in the Championship, three points outside an automatic promotion spot.
Griffin, 32, who helped Stoke finish second in 2008, told the Reading Evening Post: "There's a lot of ingredients you need to be successful.
"You need desire, determination, camaraderie and spirit. We've shown that this season. We also have a lot of youth and with that you have enthusiasm and you can mix that with the experienced players.
"And when you have Shane Long, Jimmy Kebe and Mikele Leigertwood being nothing short of outstanding, as well as belief in your team-mates that also helps.
"We're also a team of unselfish players, so we have a lot of ingredients, but we haven't achieved anything yet. We're on a good run at the moment, but we don't want to get too carried away or look too much into the future."
