The Scotsman has been out of work since leaving his job at Tottenham two years ago and has actively been chasing the job.
Earlier today it was alleged that Reading boss Alan Pardew had signed a deal to become the Hammers new boss before a rapid denial was issued. Despite the dramatic disclaimer, the rumour continues to rumble on.
However, early favourite George Graham has now re-emerged as the Hammers pick for the role.
Westhamfans.org have alleged that the 59-year-old was seen leaving Upton Park. When asked if he was the new Hammers boss the coy Scot responded with a smile before uttering "let's wait and see".
If the reported sightings are genuine then Reading fans could be forgiven for breathing a huge sigh of relief.
However, as if to throw another hat into the ever more confusing ring, it was reported a couple of days ago that the Hammers were interviewing all candidates at Upton Park. If this 'other' rumour was to be true, it could be that Graham is merely one of a number of candidates being considered by the West Ham board.
Whilst Pards has emerged as the strong favourite for the post in the past couple of days, George Graham, Bryan Robson, Paul Hart, Stuart Pearce, Iain Dowie and Andy Hessenthaler continue to have their names banded about in connection with the job.
Alan Pardew, who took charge of the club nearly five years ago, is a much-loved boss as he has led the club from the bottom of Division Two to the verge of the Premiership.
