Dillon Delighted With Season Start

Reading recorded their third win of the season at Walsall on Saturday, and their second win of the week - bringing them up from down near the relegation zone to tenth and just one point behind the play off places.

"It's great to be in the top half and only one point away from the top six," proclaimed Royal's Assistant Manager Kevin Dillon, speaking to Reading World.

"The start we had to the season was very difficult, and we lost to Derby and Leicester, teams that I think will make the play-offs.

"Now we're playing teams we're expecting to beat (the likes of Burnley and Walsall), we've done that and we're on a bit of a run with two wins out of two.

"The team travel to Rotherham at the weekend, they beat us to promotion a couple of years ago. So it's a game that the players are massively looking forward to, but it will be good to be in action at home the two fixtures after that."

Midfielder Andy Hughes put in a typically tenacious performance against the Saddlers, and bagged both goals. According to Dillon, Hughsey has got too much energy.

"He wants to run into channels and holes all the time, and sometimes he runs too early - he's got too much energy! We tell him that if he keeps his strenght until the end of the game then he'll get chances.

"Andy must make fifteen forward runs a game which is quite unusual for a midfielder, we're trying to restrict him so that he only charges forward when he has a chance of scoring; it certianly worked at the weekend.

"John Mackie and Adie Williams put in outstanding performances as did the teo full-backs who covered each other very well. Since Marcus has come into the team we've kept two clean sheets - and thats no coincidence. The defence looked solid."
