Madejski told BBC Berkshire: "I believe it's to do with our extraordinary run in the FA Cup.
"When we beat Everton it showed the boys and everybody what they're capable of and they stood up to the plate."
He also hinted that failure to reach the Premier League this season via the play-offs will have consequences.
"If we don't make it to the promised land then things will have to change but that's the nature of the beast I'm afraid."
Madejski, who bought the club in 1990, has made no secret of the fact he wants to sell the club and admitted he is still looking for the right person to take the club forward long-term.
"As people continually ask me the same old question 'is the club for sale?' I've been chairman for 20 long years and the club has been for sale that whole time.
"All I'm pointing out is if there is somebody out there with enormously deep pockets that can take the club further than I can then come on in.
"We have more chance of finding that elusive person in the Premier League than we do in the Championship," Madejski concluded.
