Reading manager Steve Coppell has been given money to spend in order to land the Royals a play-off place, and the chance to have another stab at winning Premiership football.
Whilst previously the club had stated that they were only looking to sign players on a loan basis, Nigel Howe revealed a u-turn had been made and the club are now prepared to sign players permanently.
"Steve has told us which positions he thinks we're short in, and we've given him the green light to go and make permanent signings or loans in those positions," Howe explained, speaking to the official site.
"I know that loans are very difficult to make this year, but Steve has identified certain players we might be interested in signing."
No names were mentioned by the Royals chief as he discussed the clubs transfer plans, although Howe did confirm that Reading have cast the net out wide as they attempt to find the right players.
He added: "Last month our senior scouts watched something like 40 or 50 games between them, it’s just a case of identifying the right players for this club."
Howe's revelation comes following a lot of criticism from the Reading support who have suggested that the club are not really serious about realising the long-held Premiership dream.
Recent spending policies appear to agree with their criticisms, Steve Coppell has been handed just £250,000 to spend on players who are used to plying their trade in lower Divisions. Reading MAD await the new recruits with eager anticipation...
