Joe Cole, surprisingly left out of the Sven Goran Eriksson's senior squad, is hoping to put in another match-winning performance at the Madejski Stadium tomorrow night.

The West Ham midfielder won many media plaudits for his goal and two assists during Friday's 4-0 win over Slovakia under 21.

After going to the World Cup with England, Cole will hope to impress the watching Mr Eriksson to win a return to the full side.

Following Friday's victory Cole said: "I played well and it was nice to get another goal. That was my third of the season. It's paying dividends for all the hard work I'm putting in and I'm enjoying it.

"I don't view this as sending out a message. I just decided I was going to work hard and make a few goals, and it went well tonight.

"I don't consider it a comedown to play for the Under 21s. It's an honour to represnt your country at any level. It is never hard (to motivate yourself to) play football for England at any level.

"I didn't see it as a step down and I saw all my mates again and it was enjoyable and good to make a winning start to the group.

"I am a ambitious lad and I want to be back in the full squad as soon as possible, but I'm not silly and the only way I can do that is by putting in good performances for West Ham and the Under 21s.

"It is very pleasing when it happens like that but now I've got another game on Tuesday against Macedonia and I've got to do the same again."
