Reading boss Brian McDermott has pledged to give all of his players a "clean slate" this season. The Royals squad are back in pre-season training with the exception of captain Ivar Ingimarsson and defender Chris Armstrong, who are both recovering from injury. Reading are set for their first pre-season friendly at Farnborough on Saturday and McDermott told the Bracknell Forest Standard: "It's a clean slate for everybody all the time. "You just have to do everything the best you can be as a player and that is important. "I'm looking to get everything done here in our first week, go to Slovenia, work hard for nine days there and then come back. "Every day is planning to Scunthorpe (on Saturday, August 7) and to win that, that's what we're trying to do."
