Church scored Reading's equaliser when the ball ricoched into his knee but he's happy to be off the mark at home.
"I was happy to get the goal and the keeper pulled off an amazing save for the one that has hit the bar," he said. "We had chances and it's another sloppy goal that has cost us.
"It's the type of goal that you love. I needed a goal because of the spell I have been on. I didn't care how it came, it just hit me on my knee so it's the bit of luck I needed.
"It was my first ever goal there and I was thinking before the game that I needed to score.
"I was getting choked by someone so I couldn't really see what was going on, but it is a great feeling to score in front of your own fans.
"I have been taught as a youngster that if the ball goes over your head then you follow in at the keeper. "Luckily for me Gylfi has knocked it back and it has just hit me. It was the type of goal that I need to take and enjoy scoring."
Church now joins up with Wales for the international break.
