Reading manager Brian McDermott believes youngster Jake Taylor can emulate the achievements of former club legend Nicky Shorey. The 18-year-old midfielder - who can also slot into a number of positions across the pitch - has impressed McDermott so much in pre-season that he has backtracked on a decision to send the youngster out on loan for the season. And he reckons the Academy product can follow the path of Shorey, who helped guide the Berkshire club to the Premier League before winning full England honours. McDermott told the Reading Chronicle: "He's played left-back, right-back, centre midfield and off the striker. "He has shown he can play in a number of positions and he is a good footballer. He reminds me of Nicky Shorey when he first came to Reading." On his decision to farm Taylor out on loan, McDermott added: "My feeling at the start of the summer was to look at loaning him out, but now I'm not so sure. He is in and around the squad now, so we will keep an eye on that one."
