The 36-year-old Londoner, who spent eighteen years at Highbury before retiring from playing in 2002, is eager to plant himself in the Madejski Stadium hotseat.
Adams, who has no previous managerial experience, is one of in the region of fifty applicants. The former centre-back, who once served a prison sentence for drink-driving, was reportedly interviewed by Royals chairman John Madejski yesterday.
The club have confirmed that they are currently in the process of interviewing candidates and Adams is just one of several men in the frame for the job. Steve Coppell, Steve Cotterill, Ronnie Moore and Joe Kinnear are all reportedly keen on taking the job.
The former England captain has reportedly turned down five job offers since retiring from football, but with coaching qualifications to his name, he is now said to be ready to make the first step onto the ladder.
The Sun have been reporting that Adams is the 'favourite' to land the post, yet these reports are sensationalist to say the least.
Meanwhile, the club also yesterday interviewed interim boss Kevin Dillon who is hoping to take the job on a permanent basis. Dillon, who has been at the club for a decade, is also hoping to be handed his first job in management. However, after two defeats in three games his chances appear to be somewhat smaller than Adams.
